Este libro invita a los lectores a re-imaginar el futuro de San Luis Potosí (SLP) y de uno de sus cauces pavimentados: el Río Santiago. A través de escenarios y proyectos de arquitectura y paisaje, que resultan del taller internacional “A motorway named Rio", el trabajo visualiza una ciudad sostenible y socialmente justa. En este imaginario, la infraestructura gris, como respuesta tecnológica a una era desarrollista, ya no puede ser la única estrategia para abordar los problemas ecológicos que enfrentan las ciudades actualmente.
Con esto en mente, el libro se divide en tres secciones: la primera muestra los antecedentes y el análisis, un atlas de mapas a escala regional y urbana y un conjunto de herramientas que se pueden utilizar para intervenir el río. La segunda sección presenta el proceso de diseño y los proyectos resultantes y la tercera muestra cómo se exhibieron los resultados en Oslo y SLP, reflexiona sobre otras ciudades posibles y cierra con conclusiones.
This book invites readers to re-imagine the future of San Luis Potosi (SLP) and one of its paved streams: the Santiago River. Through scenarios and architectural and landscape projects that result from the international workshop “A motorway called Rio”, the work visualizes a sustainable and socially just city. Within this imaginary, gray infrastructure, as a technological answer to a developmentalist era can no longer be the only strategy to approach the ecological problems that cities currently face.
With this in mind, the book is divided in three sections: the first shows the background and analyses, an atlas of regional and urban maps and a toolbox that can be used to intervene the river. The second section presents the design process and resulting projects and the third shows how the projects were exhibited in Oslo and SLP, reflects upon other possible cities and closes with conclusions.
